About Diana:

"I am running for the position of Female District Leader in Assembly District 65, Part B.

I was born and raised on the Lower East Side, and a life long resident of NYCHA.  I am currently serving as  NYCHA Vice President of the Residence Association at the Lower East Side Infill # 1. I founded the NYCHA's Residents Green Committee. Christopher Marte is also a founding member of this vital organization. I am active at Our Lady of Sorrows in kitchen ministry and Eucharistic ministry. And I taught Catechism at Saint Mary's.

I love my community and feel passionate about serving my community.  I am running for this office to better serve my community to make it a better place for all.

I am an advocate for public and affordable housing for all. I will fight for a stronger and more united Lower East Side, where everyone will be represented equally.

Strong Community Representation at all levels of Government:

We will fight very hard to effectively represent our community's concerns at every level of government. We will actively reach out to our neighbors and listen to community concerns and bring those issues to the forefront of awareness and discussion at all levels of government. Daisey Paez, our current Female district leader is a go along to get along player, not a representative of the people's interest. We will work to keep our elected officials accountable to the people in our district.

Our issues:

Stop Rampant Gentrification:           Today, our neighborhood is fighting for it's very existence as the refuge for, and bastion of New York City's immigrants and low income residents. Ever since the 1830s, this neighborhood nestled along the East River, has been home to those just finding their way to New York and a new world, and to those who are struggling to build better lives in the city.

For generations, New Yorkers of modest means could find a home in our neighborhood. That is now being threatened by overreaching real estate interests who are driving up rents to unaffordable levels. The result has been families and individuals doubling up in apartments meant for fewer people, and record homelessness.

Public housing has been grossly underfunded for the past 40+ years, leading to deteriorating infrastructure and delayed repairs.

We will actively fight for full funding for public housing, and fight for affordable housing for all, and oppose overreaching real estate development.

About Johnathan:

"I am running for the position of Male District Leader in Assembly District 65, Part B.

I  am currently serving as NYCHA Vice President of Smith Houses. I have successfully fought to keep the city from taking over our baseball field, along with Harvey Epstein, attorney and now Assembly Member.  I am strongly dedicated to public service. As a long time resident, activist and community leader in this neighborhood, I feel that I have much to contribute as District Leader.

I am all about listening to residents and then taking our neighborhood's issues and concerns to decision makers at all levels of government.

I will fight hard for our neighborhoods' interests. I will actively address issues with our elected officials and with Federal, State, County and City government.

Moratorium on Monster Buildings:

We propose and will fight for a moratorium on the construction of all Monster Buildings in our neighborhood. We currently do not have the necessary infrastructure to support the extraordinary influx of residents these buildings bring into our neighborhood. Moreover, Monster Buildings drive all rents in the neighborhood upwards, forcing long-time residents and small businesses out.
